1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of the MPG Calc website at mpgcalc.co.uk ("the site"). By accessing or using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

The site is based in the United Kingdom.

2. Free service, no warranty

MPG Calc is provided free of charge and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantees about:

  • The accuracy, completeness or timeliness of fuel prices, calculations or any other content shown
  • Continuous availability or uptime of the site
  • Freedom from errors, bugs or interruptions
  • Fitness of the site for any particular purpose

You use the site entirely at your own discretion and risk.

3. Fuel price data

Fuel prices displayed on the site are sourced from the UK Government Fuel Finder scheme, which requires retailers to report their pump prices. We refresh this data approximately every 30 minutes but cannot guarantee that the prices shown match the actual price at the pump at any given moment. Always confirm the price at the station before refuelling, or before making a journey to that station.

Where the underlying data appears implausible or contradictory, we apply automated statistical checks that may correct or exclude individual prices. These checks are best-effort and not guaranteed to catch every error.

4. Calculator results

The calculators on the site (MPG, journey cost, running cost comparisons, break-even analysis, etc.) produce estimates based on the inputs you provide and the assumptions baked into each calculator. They are intended for general guidance only and should not be relied upon as financial, automotive or commercial advice. Always verify any figure that matters to a real-world decision against an authoritative source.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MPG Calc and its operator accept no liability for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or otherwise — arising from your use of the site, including but not limited to:

  • Decisions made on the basis of fuel prices, calculator results or any other information shown
  • Loss of data, lost savings, lost time or any commercial losses
  • Errors, omissions or interruptions in the service
  • Loss arising from third-party services linked to or embedded on the site (including map providers, advertising networks and analytics)

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under UK law (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose or in a way that could damage, disable or impair it
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, related systems or other users' accounts
  • Scrape, harvest or systematically extract data from the site beyond reasonable personal use
  • Use automated tools (bots, crawlers, scripts) in a way that places undue load on the site
  • Interfere with the normal operation of the site or with other users' use of it

Search engine crawlers indexing the site in line with our robots.txt are welcome.

7. Accounts

Optional account features (logging fuel records against your own vehicles) require you to create a free account. You are responsible for keeping your passphrase secure and for any activity on your account. We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these terms or appear to be abusive. Inactive accounts are automatically deleted — see the privacy policy for details.

8. Intellectual property

The site's design, layout, original text, calculator implementations and database structure are the property of the operator. Fuel price data is sourced from the UK Government Fuel Finder scheme under its open terms. Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database Licence.

You are welcome to use the calculators, browse the data and link to pages on the site. Please do not republish substantial portions of the site's content or copy its design without permission.

9. Advertising

The site is funded by advertising served by Google AdSense and its partners. We have no control over the specific ads shown on any given page. The presence of an ad does not imply any endorsement of the advertiser by MPG Calc.

10. Third-party links

The site contains links to third-party websites (gov.uk, OpenStreetMap, retailer brand pages and others). We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices or availability of those external sites.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from your use of the site are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
